About This Tool

Free PDF word counter online — count words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs in any PDF file instantly in your browser, without uploading to any server. Writers, editors, translators, and academics use this tool to count words in PDF reports, theses, legal documents, and contracts. Translators need accurate word counts to quote project fees. Editors check manuscript length against publisher word count requirements. Students verify their dissertation meets minimum word limits. The word counter extracts the text layer from the PDF and applies the same counting logic as our text word counter — giving you an accurate count for all text-layer PDFs.
